The Battribike Buzz is a heavy little workhorse with a lead acid battery, delivered half-assembled for £375 in 2009 - less than half the cost of an electric commuter bike. It would suit a bike trailer, and it has a large strong rack on the back as part of the frame, to hold a panniers or a trunk over sprung suspension front and back. It might be good for regular short deliveries, moving things around a warehouse, or an up-hill trip to the nearest station. The U-shaped frame is heavy but allows you to step on and off easily. The stand comes in handy, as you wouldn't want to lift the thing up every time you use it.

An advantage of the weight is that it is hard to steal from outside a station. You won't get mugged for riding this bike, and if you spray it badly to your own taste, no thief would touch it. Or write "lead acid" on the battery compartment to give an idea, or "built-in tracker".

I would take the saddle and handlebars with me if I left it at a station, or bolt and glue them on. They are designed for easy retraction or removal so that the thing might fit in a cupboard under the stairs or an outdoor storage box. It's 29" high without the seat post & handlebars.

If you turn-on the switch and pedal, the motor starts. Stop pedaling or brake and the motor cuts-out. You do this often as it is more-or-less single speed and pedaling is a very low single-gear, but there is a throttle to increase voltage. I didn't notice any effect, and guess it goes about 10mph with regular pedals to get it going and free-wheels till it cuts-out, which I suppose is good exercise. The instruction book says it goes 15mph with a tweak to the wiring.

The thing was advertised as going 10-15 miles on its 10 amp-hour 15kg sealed lead acid battery.

The battery capacity reduces, apparently, after 3-500 cycles.

I don't know the range of the current battery, but I have used it to ride 3 miles and tested the charger.
There is a battery indicator on the handlebars and if by chance it runs-out, you can still pedal slowly home.

Sealed lead acid batteries are cheap. A lighter lithium-iron battery probably looks like this inside the box I suppose, and some lower-capacity 36v packs are available on ebay. People who know about batteries would know whether a lighter weight battery with maybe a smaller Amp-hour capacity would be a good investment. The bike without the battery is said to weigh 25kg.

The batteries charge from a kettle connector on the transformer; there is no need to take them off the machine. I don't know if this can charge from electric car points.

Originally the thing would have had a key to turn it on and release the battery; now it has a switch. You would have to improvise some way to change the battery or open the battery compartment.

This is for sale at 2 Avenue Gds, SW14 8BP, which is in East Sheen SW London and I am in most days. You'll see plenty of public transport options on google maps and there is free parking.

The nearest stations with trains that take bikes are Mortlake and Barnes Common - both close - and Kew Gardens or Richmond further away . You can plan a London train journey with a bike, if it's possible, on tfl gov uk / plan-a-journey
